AS9100D Update and Transition

August 2016

Transition and alignment of AS9100 to ISO 9001:2015 continues to move forward. At a recent meeting of stakeholders in Fort Worth, TX additional information and clarifications on timing was presented. ASR is required to notify all AS9100 and AS9120 clients of the transition process and requirements.

All ASR clients are required by December 31, 2016 to provide information on their readiness and commitment to transition. Below are the estimated dates for release of information and transition requirements for both ASR and all certified clients.
  • September 20, 2016 - AS9100D Release
  • November 2016 - AS9101F Release
  • November 30, 2016 – Third- party auditor training available
  • December 2016 - AS9120B Release
  • December 31, 2016 - Client notification to ASR regarding transition plan
  • June 15, 2017 – No more audits to AS9100C or AS9120A, all audits to be conducted to AS9100D and AS9120B
  • September 15, 2018 – All transition audits must be completed, certification decisions made and audit data and certificates uploaded to OASIS.
  • Transition audits to AS9100D or AS9120B will be conducted on your regular audit schedule with additional audit time required.
  • Upon completion of the transition audit, a new certificate will be issued using the existing certificate dates (i.e. if your current certificate dates are March 1, 2016 to September 15, 2018 the re-issued certificate would be March 1, 2016 to February 28, 2019 for AS9100D or AS9120B). A new certificate cycle is not started unless the transition audit is done at recertification.
  • If the transition is not completed in its entirety including entry into OASIS a new initial certification will be required
The overall theme presented from the industry stakeholders was that certified clients should get started now on upgrading their internal systems to the requirements in ISO 9001:2015 as AS9100D and AS9120B are using the new structure. ASR also recommends that clients begin the process now as the transition timeline is very short and the entire industry will be challenged to accomplish all client upgrades prior to September 15, 2018.

If your normal audit cycle is during the months of January – May it is possible that you will be able to transition in 2018. However, if your current audit cycle is June – December you will be required to transition in 2017. Please send ASR an email documenting your receipt of this information and planned transition timing so we can document and plan the required resources to make this a successful transition.
