Competence-HighlightedAdvertising Your Registered Quality System

Does your organization's advertising material reflect the scope statement printed on your registration certificate?

ANAB has mandated certification bodies (ASR) to ensure registered organizations do not incorrectly advertise their certificate. An example is making an advertising statement that "our products are ISO 9001" registered. The proper verbiage is "our company has an ISO 9001registered" quality management system. This statement announces to your customers and potential customers that your organization has a system in place to produce products meeting customer requirements.

Next time your ASR auditor visits, he/she may ask to view your website and sales or promotion material. What they will be looking for is conformance that advertising material does not exceed your registration scope. If your scope excludes "product design" but your advertising material states design capabilities, ASR will ask you to rewrite your advertising statement deleting any reference to product design. "Product Design" is ISO 9001 language and can only be used when an organization's registration scope specifically includes product design capabilities.

However, an organization offering engineering services is not an indication that the firm is design responsible. This language might be a good way of stating that your company has the talent to assist in completing projects, but also clearly states your firm provides only engineering services, not the design of products.

If you have questions on the proper use of your certificate of registration, call ASR at 888-891-9002 and ask to speak with ASR's technical staff.
